Embellishment of the felted scarf layout can add interest and texture. For me it is an opportunity to use color more widely, add sparkle and delight to the layout. Embellishments can include a variety of fibers--mulberry silk, plant fibers such as Tencel, ramie, or bamboo, wool such as hairy mohair, eyelash thread, silk cord such as that used for needlepoint, pre-felt or nepps. (Nepps are tiny bits of merino wool... think of them like CONFETTI. These little guys are actually a bi-product of wool processing and are fabulous for creating texture and little clusters of color). Sometimes embellishments are added as edges – fringe, ruffles, felted leaves or flowers, beads, ribbons and more.
